Social media doesn’t have to be scary.
For many organizations, social media marketing can feel imposing, a murky venture filled with uncertainties and no guarantee of returns. There are many questions—where to start, what to post, how to grow—and many misconceptions. We’ve busted the top three social media myths that may be holding your organization back.
“It’s going to take forever to grow our accounts”
False! It may take time to harvest all the fruits of your social marketing efforts. But with frequent posting and good content, it doesn’t take long to start seeing results. And remember, you don’t need a huge following, you just need an active one. So, don’t let this scare you away; it won’t take forever.
“Social costs a lot of money”
This is a common misconception. Social can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. You can market very effectively without spending a penny—providing you're putting good content out there. With the right forethought, your dollar goes a long way on social. Plus, sharing interesting things, offering knowledge and insights, interacting with your audiences through polls, quizzes, questions, and so on—that’s all as free as candy from your neighbors on Halloween.
“You need a large team dedicated to social to be successful on social media.”
While many organizations have entire teams dedicated to social, many don’t—and they’re doing just fine. You don’t need a giant team or large pool of resources to be successful on social. If you don’t have in-house capabilities for something, outsource! It doesn’t have to be expensive. The right team, agency, or even freelancer can take the load off your back and help you succeed on social. Don’t be afraid to test the waters with a project or campaign!
