ACO Learning Center Accountable Care Implementation Guide Recognizes Innovative Public Outreach Campaign.

ALEXANDRIA, VA Crystal Run Healthcare has been recognized for its outstanding public education efforts in the Accountable Care Organization Learning Network’s new Adopting Accountable Care, An Implementation Guide for Physician Practices.

Crystal Run Healthcare, based in New York, is among an elite group of multi-specialty health care practices that are leading the way in creating a new, patient-centered model for health care. As a pioneering Accountable Care Organization (or ACO), Crystal Run’s leadership has also implemented innovative outreach approaches to help educate both consumers and other healthcare providers on the philosophy and practice of value-based care.

The ACO Learning Center Guide (authored by Brookings’ Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform, and available through the ACO Learning Center at http://www.acolearningnetwork.org) highlighted this campaign to educate patients on the benefits of choosing care providers that are focused on better care, keeping patients healthy, and reducing costs.

Crystal Run’s executive team recognized a challenge in helping patients understand the complex and rapid change in the health care landscape – in order to better participate in their own care. Hal Teitelbaum, MD, JD, MBA, Crystal Run’s Managing Partner and CEO, notes, “We knew it was vital to help the community become informed health consumers. It’s hard to change the established but erroneous belief that more care is better care.”

Dr. Teitelbaum and Michelle A. Koury, MD, COO, directed their marketing agency, PCI, to develop a multi-faceted educational campaign. Input from Dr. Teitelbaum and Dr. Koury, along with Crystal Run’s Chief Clinical Transformational Officer, Jonathan Nasser, MD and Chief Quality Officer, Scott Hines, MD, evolved into a series of one-hour community seminars, reinforced through a series of “Health Minute” radio spots, and “On This We Can Agree” print ads. Crystal Run plans to continue and expand the successful outreach campaign, along with its efforts to inform and encourage other organizations in adopting value-based care.
